Optimizing IIS6 and Extending Session Timeout Settings

Website settings

  1. Right-click on the website and select properties.
  2. On the Web Site tab
    • Set Connection timeout: to 36000
  3. On the Home Directory tab
    • Click on Configuration in the Application Settings area
    • Once in the Application Configuration area, select the Options tab
    • Set the Session timeout: to 1440

Application Pool settings:

  1. Right-click on the application pool assigned to your website and select properties
  2. On the Recycling tab
    • Uncheck Recycle worker processes(in minutes):
    • Make sure the Recycle worker process(number of requests): is unchecked
    • Place a check in Recycle worker processes at the following times: and set this to 02:30
  3. On the Performance tab
    • Uncheck Shutdown worker processes after being idle for (time in minutes):

MarketingPilot WebConfig settings:

  1. The web.config file is located in the Web Server directory of MarketingPilot
    • Right-click on the file and select Open with (you can use notepad)
    • Once the file is open do a ctrl-f or Edit-Find and look for “sessionstate mode”
    • At the end of this line you need to change the timeout=”1440″ to “36000”
